Junior School Weekly—Thursday, October 8, 2026

Dear Junior School Families,

This morning’s Harvest Festival was a beautiful beginning to the Thanksgiving weekend! The service offers an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on all we have to be grateful for. This year, I am particularly grateful to see our new and returning students starting the year so strongly, our partnership with all of you, and the entire Havergal community. Please enjoy taking some time to look at the Junior School Harvest Festival Pictures, which capture some of the magic experienced this morning. Videos of the event are also forthcoming.

A particular note of thanks for everyone’s generous donations to the North York Harvest Food Bank (NYHFB). 1 in 10 Torontonians rely on food banks every day, and these contributions are essential to helping the NYHFB achieve its vision of ending hunger in Toronto. Our Grade 6s assisted in loading the truck with all the donations today and are very much looking forward to visiting the NYHFB in November to learn more about the organization and participate in a food sort.

Wishing you all a lovely long weekend.

Warmly,

Kate

Eric Hudson – Sharing Resources

We were thrilled to welcome Eric Hudson back to campus this week as we continued our strategic work with him, carefully considering how AI can be used to strengthen student thinking and learning. Eric is a facilitator and advisor who works with schools to make sense of what is changing in education and what those changes mean for teaching and learning.

In addition to working with our Upper School students and faculty from JK – 12, Eric met with parents on Tuesday evening. He offered practical strategies for opening up curious, non-judgmental conversations at home about how students are using AI, the choices they are making, and the impact those choices can have on their learning, independence and judgment.

For those who were unable to attend, please feel free to review the Slidedeck shared with HC families.
